Historical Briefs

Did you know:
Beds of the 15th through 18th centuries were made with rope stretchers for holding boards upon which the mattress would lie. These stretchers had to be tightened regularly. Hence the expression: "sleep tight."

How Much Is It Worth In Today's Currency? (A fun site where you can enter, for example, £500 and any year between 1264 and 1970, and it will calculate the value in today's money. For example, £500 in 1812 is the equivalent of £21,763.98 today.)

The Fog City Divas

24-hour live video cams from three zoos that are homes to giant pandas. These critters are so much fun to watch! And there is usually at least one cub on hand. Last year, pandas at both the San Diego and National zoos gave birth, and this year there is a new panda cub in Atlanta. It's hard to find anything cuter than a baby panda.
